Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

Ultimate Volume Booster ("the Extension", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and who we share it with. By installing or using the Extension, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Data We Collect and Store Locally on Your Device

The Extension stores the following data locally in your browser using Chrome's chrome.storage API. This data never leaves your device unless explicitly described in Section 2 below:

  • Extension User ID: A randomly generated UUID (universally unique identifier) created when the Extension is installed. This ID is used solely to link your browser to your Premium subscription status on our server.
  • Volume Settings: Your per-tab volume levels and last-used volume value, used to restore your preferred volume when you revisit tabs.
  • Feature Preferences: Toggle states for premium features such as Volume Stability, Safe Boost, Bass Boost, Voice Clarity, Equalizer band values, and Auto-Apply Presets — used to remember your audio preferences.
  • Site Presets: Domain-specific audio profiles (volume level and feature settings) that you choose to save, enabling automatic application of your preferred settings on specific websites.
  • Premium Status: A boolean flag indicating whether you have an active Premium subscription, used to unlock or lock premium features in the UI.
  • License Key & Email: If you manually activate a license, your license key and the email address associated with it are stored locally so the Extension can re-verify your subscription without requiring you to re-enter credentials.
  • UI Preferences: Theme selection, custom theme colors, booster on/off state, and mute state — purely for user interface customization.
  • Installation Date & Rating Reminders: The date you installed the Extension and whether you have submitted a rating or chosen to be reminded later — used solely to determine when to show an optional rating prompt.

2. Data We Collect and Transmit to Our Server

When certain features are used, the Extension sends a minimal amount of data to our backend server hosted at uvb.postora.uno:

  • Extension User ID: Sent to our server to check your subscription/premium status, create checkout sessions, and link license key activations. This is a random UUID and does not personally identify you.
  • Email Address: If you choose to activate a license key manually, your email is sent to our server to validate it against the license records held by our payment provider.
  • License Key: If you enter a license key for manual activation, it is sent to our server for validation against records managed by Polar.sh.
  • Plan Type: When initiating a purchase, the selected plan type (monthly, yearly, or lifetime) is sent to our server to create a checkout session via Polar.sh.

On our server, we store in a PostgreSQL database: your Extension User ID, subscription status (active or inactive), email address (if provided during purchase or license activation), Polar subscription/license ID reference, and timestamps of creation and last update.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be transparent about what we do not collect:

  • We do not collect, store, or transmit your browsing history, visited URLs, search queries, or any content from web pages you visit.
  • We do not collect passwords, cookies, form data, or any credentials entered on websites.
  • We do not record, store, or transmit the audio content of your tabs. The Extension processes audio streams entirely on your device using the Web Audio API. No audio data is ever sent to any server.
  • We do not collect your IP address, device fingerprint, or geolocation data within the Extension.
  • We do not use any third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs within the Extension.

4. How We Use Your Data

All data collected is used exclusively for the following purposes:

  • Core Functionality: Volume settings, feature preferences, and site presets are used to provide the audio-boosting functionality and remember your choices across tabs and sessions.
  • Premium Access Management: Your Extension User ID, email, license key, and subscription status are used solely to verify that you have an active Premium subscription and to unlock Premium features accordingly.
  • Subscription Lifecycle: We perform a background subscription status check once per day (via a Chrome alarm) to ensure Premium access remains accurate and up to date.
  • Service Improvement: We may use aggregated, non-personally identifiable information (e.g., total install count from the Chrome Web Store dashboard) to understand general usage trends and improve the Extension.

5. Third Parties We Share Data With

We share a minimal amount of data with the following third-party services, strictly as necessary to operate the Extension's payment and hosting infrastructure:

5.1 Polar.sh (Payment & Licensing Provider)

We use Polar.sh ("Polar") as our payment processor and license management platform. When you purchase a subscription or license:

  • Your payment information (credit card details, billing address, etc.) is collected and processed directly by Polar — we never see or store your payment details.
  • Polar receives your Extension User ID (as checkout metadata) to link the purchase to your Extension installation.
  • Polar collects your email address during checkout for receipts and account management.
  • When validating license keys, Polar receives the license key and associated email for verification purposes.
  • Polar's privacy policy governs how they handle your data: https://polar.sh/privacy

5.2 Vercel (Hosting Provider)

Our backend API and website are hosted on Vercel Inc. Vercel processes the network requests between the Extension and our server. Vercel may log standard server information (such as request metadata) as part of their platform operations. Vercel does not have access to your local Extension data.

5.3 Google Chrome Web Store

The Extension is distributed through the Google Chrome Web Store. Google may collect data related to your installation, updates, and usage of the Extension in accordance with Google's own privacy policy. We have no control over Google's data collection practices.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.

6. Chrome Permissions and Their Purpose

The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions, each used exclusively for its core audio-boosting functionality:

  • tabs: To identify the currently active tab so that volume controls apply to the correct tab.
  • tabCapture: To capture the audio output stream of a tab for volume amplification. Audio is processed locally and never transmitted.
  • offscreen: To run the Web Audio API processing engine in an offscreen document (required by Chrome's Manifest V3 architecture).
  • storage: To save your volume settings, feature preferences, site presets, theme choices, and premium status locally on your device.
  • alarms: To schedule a periodic (once-daily) background check of your Premium subscription status.
  • Host permissions (<all_urls>): To inject a lightweight content script into web pages that ensures HTML audio and video elements output audio at full volume so the Extension can amplify the signal. The content script does not read, modify, or transmit any page content other than media element volume/mute properties.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures to protect the data we handle:

  • All communication between the Extension and our server uses HTTPS encryption.
  • Our server stores only the minimum data necessary to manage subscriptions.
  • Payment data is handled entirely by Polar.sh and never touches our servers.
  • Locally stored data is protected by Chrome's built-in storage security mechanisms.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local data: All locally stored data is deleted when you uninstall the Extension from your browser. You may also clear this data at any time via Chrome's extension settings.
  • Server data: Your Extension User ID, email, and subscription status are retained on our server for as long as necessary to provide Premium access. If you wish to have your server-side data deleted, contact us using the details in Section 10 below.

9. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
